Core Principles

Built for the Trade, Not the App Store.

Hand tools are bought once, carried everywhere, and relied on in conditions with no power and no connectivity. Jobsite software should honor the same standard.

One Purchase. Never a Subscription.

You buy your hand tools once and own them for your career. Software for the jobsite should work the same way. A single one-time purchase unlocks every current and future solver pack. No monthly bills, no annual renewals, and no paywalled solver updates.

Works With Zero Signal.

Whether you are in a sub-grade mechanical room, a precast parking garage, a rural barn frame, or a crawlspace with zero cellular reception, Sixteenths performs all calculations instantly on your device. It contains no networking code, contacts no remote servers, and requires no login.

True Fraction Math. Every Step Shown.

Standard digital calculators convert tape readings to decimal floats, introduce rounding errors, and spit out an answer you cannot check. Sixteenths keeps every unit in whole feet, inches, and sixteenths. Tap any result to see the complete mathematical breakdown, formulas, and intermediate carries.

Solver Packs

Field-Tested Solvers for Every Trade.

Dedicated mathematical solvers covering electrical conduit, piping, structural framing, finish carpentry, concrete, and site layout.

Conduit Bending

Solves 90-degree stub-ups, back-to-back 90s, true offsets, and 3-bend or 4-bend saddles. Preloaded with manufacturer tables for Klein, Ideal, and Greenlee hand and power benders across 1/2-inch to 2-inch EMT and Rigid. All take-up, deduct, multiplier, and shrink factors are fully editable to match the wear on your specific bender shoe.

Rolling Offsets

Solves compound 3D piping and conduit runs across both vertical rise and horizontal roll. Computes the true offset distance, the roll angle in degrees, fitting travel, and exact cut lengths between fittings with automatic deduction for standard or custom elbow take-ups.

Stairs Solved in Both Directions

Calculate stringers from total rise down to uniform risers and treads, or enter a target riser height to determine total rise. Provides exact riser height, tread run, stringer throat depth, total run, and bottom riser deduct for tread thickness. Validates against IRC and IBC code limits to prevent uneven steps.

Rafters with Ridge Subtracted

Common, hip, valley, and jack rafter solutions. Calculates line length, plumb cut angle, level seat cut, bird's mouth depth, and tail overhang. Automatically subtracts half the ridge board thickness from the total span before calculating the effective run, eliminating the most common layout mistake on site.

Squaring & Diagonal Layout

Classic 3-4-5 proportional multipliers and exact Pythagorean diagonal calculations down to the sixteenth. Square up foundation formwork, deck footings, wall frames, partition corners, and casework boxes across any run and rise dimensions.

On-Centre Layout

Continuous running tape calculations for 12-inch, 16-inch, 19.2-inch, and 24-inch on-centre framing. Pull your tape from the corner of a plate or rim joist and mark every stud, joist, or rafter location directly from a single list without cumulative pencil-width drift.

Grade & Fall with Code Checks

Calculate pitch per foot, slope percentage, total drop, and invert elevations for drainage pipe, grading, and concrete flatwork. Built-in compliance checks immediately verify ADA maximum ramp slope (1:12 slope) and plumbing code drain minimums of 1/4-inch and 1/8-inch fall per foot.

Sheet Goods Optimizer

Optimize layouts for 4x8, 4x9, and 4x12 drywall, plywood, OSB subfloor, and cement backer board. Evaluates vertical versus horizontal hanging orientations, accounts for stud and joist seam landings, staggers butt joints, and reports accurate sheet counts with cut-waste percentages.

Crown Molding Compound Miter

Calculate precise miter saw blade angles and bevel tilt angles for cutting crown molding laying flat on the saw bed. Supports standard 38/52 and 45/45 spring angles as well as non-standard angles. Handles outside corners, inside corners, and out-of-square wall angles without test-block guesswork.

Arcs & Curved Formwork

Input any two known values among chord width, segment height (sagitta), radius, and arc length to solve the rest. Generates ordinate coordinate points along the chord for laying out arched cased openings, barrel vault ceilings, and curved concrete formwork directly on stock.

Materials & Takeoffs

Instant material takeoff estimates. Board footage calculations for framing and hardwood stock. Concrete slab, column, and footing volumes in cubic yards plus pre-mixed 60 lb and 80 lb bag counts with user-defined waste buffers. Stud counts including top plates, sole plates, trimmers, and corner packs.

Formulas & Proof Inspection

Every solver displays the governing formula behind the solution. View the exact trigonometry, geometry theorems, and fraction reduction steps applied to your inputs. Review your work before fabricating costly pipe runs or cutting expensive structural lumber.

What Sixteenths Does Not Do: Structural Engineering

Sixteenths is a geometry, layout, and fraction calculator. It does not size beams, headers, floor joists, or load-bearing columns. Sizing structural load-bearing members requires analyzing dead loads, live loads, snow loads, wind uplift, deflection limits, continuous load paths, lumber species, and fiber stress ratings in strict accordance with local building codes. That work belongs exclusively to a licensed structural engineer or the prescriptive span tables published by your local building authority. Sixteenths will calculate the exact cut length of a rafter or header once its dimensions are determined, but it will never dictate member sizing.
